Get to Know Dr. Nizida Acharte
Dr. Nizida Acharte is passionate about providing accessible, compassionate dental care to the diverse New Haven community. As a proud first-generation Peruvian American, she is fluent in both English and Spanish, allowing her to serve patients in their preferred language and build strong, trusting relationships. Dr. Acharte finds deep fulfillment in helping patients during dental emergencies, relieving pain, restoring function, and giving them healthy, confident smiles while educating them on long-term oral health and preventive care.
Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
A Waterford, Connecticut native, Dr. Acharte's journey into dentistry began in high school when she volunteered at a migrant farmworkers' clinic. There, she witnessed dentists providing free dental examinations, education, and referrals to Spanish-speaking migrant workers who had limited access to care. Being able to comfort and assist individuals in need sparked her passion for ensuring everyone has access to quality dental care—a mission that continues to drive her practice today.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Acharte earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut at Storrs before attending the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. Following dental school, she completed a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, where she refined her clinical skills and deepened her commitment to comprehensive patient care. Before joining the Clover Dental Care team, Dr. Acharte practiced in a private office in Essex, bringing valuable real-world experience to her current role.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Acharte recently married in August 2025 and is happily settling into life in the New Haven area with her husband and their beloved Goldendoodle puppy. She is excited to become an active member of the community she now calls home, both personally and professionally.
When she's not caring for patients, Dr. Acharte enjoys family ski trips in the winter and playing tennis in the summer. Traveling has become a cherished passion she shares with her husband—they've compiled a list of favorite destinations and dream locations they hope to visit together. A fun fact: Dr. Acharte has visited Machu Picchu twice in her life! While staying closer to home, she loves playing classic games like dominoes, backgammon, and mancala with family and friends.
